Caravanning for All

Our Rig

We have a 2010 Volvo XC90 2.4 Diesel Active. We wanted to buy a heavier car just in case we ever wanted to tow a larger van. We needed something that had 7 seats but wasn’t going to cost us the earth. After a few months and spreadsheets(Sorry bit of a geek) we decided on the Volvo XC90. One of the other conditions for the car was that it was automatic as had been having a few issues with my knee. I absolutely love this car, it’s only downside is that it does like a drink of diesel but does everything we want really well for our family.

We currently have a 2018 Adria Tamar 542 DT caravan. That is quite a mouthful. We wanted something that was a bit more modern and the Tamar ticked those boxes. It has a double bunk section and due to only having 2 bunks and being 6′ 5″ inside means the girls can use the bunks during the day for watching their tablet or other activities. Olivia currently sleeps in the middle section of the van but that might change later on. The 2018 model has the large skylight that lets in lots of light into the main area. I think something I would have liked to have seen was perhaps some drawers for children’s clothes instead of where the heater was and maybe an under van heater to add that little bit more storage inside the van. We added onto the van a TV ariel, outside socket, outside gas point as those were features we were used to on our Lunar 546 we had before.

We have a Sunncamp Inceptor 390 Air Plus. We did originally want a Kampa but read lots of complaints about the condensation issues with those awnings. Being the inceptor it is also extra deep which is useful when you have 5 people. It gives us extra space to use when the weather is warmer. We are considering buying a 220/260 awning for weekends as the awning is great but it is quite heavy and I often have to put it up myself.
